“Saga” Vol.1 (Image)

Saga-01-ArtWriter: Brian K. Vaughan | Artist: Fiona Staples

When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. Saga is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in this sexy, subversive drama for adults.

I’d read the first two issues of Saga before getting this book, and I’ve been looking forward to getting caught up. Saga is a brilliant, weird and twisty sci-fi tale of war, family, and survival. It is easily one of the best new comics of 2012, and this is a superb opening collection.

Art: Saga #8 (Image)

A simple art post for Christmas. Brian Vaughan and Fiona Staples’s Saga has been one of the best new comics of this year. And the cover for its eighth issue is just a great image. I love everything about it:

I’ll have the first collection of the series reviewed hopefully in the next week or so.

Comics Round-Up (Apr.18) the 2nd

ComicsRoundUp-20120418-03

Some big things happening in this collection of comics – we have the next salvo in the battle between the Avengers and the X-Men over the fate of Hope and the Phoenix Force; two introductions to the Night of the Owls Batman event; some voodoo shenanigans in New Orleans; the beginning of an adaptation of a mega-selling crime thriller; a continuing epic space opera; UFOs and American politics; and a broken mutant. All-in-all, an excellent week.

Sadly, with my new strict budget, I wasn’t able to get the other exciting issues released this week – specifically, Justice League #8, Catwoman #8, Red Hood & The Outlaws #8, Defenders #5, Dawn of the Jedi #3, No Place Like Home #3, Secret #1 and Manhattan Projects #2. Maybe in the future, during a quieter week.

Comics Round-Up (Mar.14) the Third

ComicsRoundUp-20120314-03-1

Now that I’ve caught up with DC’s New 52, a few of them will start popping up in these post-release round-ups again. I should, therefore, be able to start offering more diverse and less DC-heavy round-ups and reviews in the future. That being said, they still release a lot of great titles and some of my favourites. And this week’s releases – DC and otherwise – were pretty awesome on the whole. A very happy reader, here.
