Another impressive book-haul, this month. Also rather varied, too, which is always nice. As per usual, I can’t read them all instantaneously, so here is an initial, first-look at the books that are coming soon to the blog and to bookstores/-shelves near you.

“The Bookseller” by Mark Pryor (Seventh Street)
The first in hopefully an ongoing thriller series
Who is killing the celebrated bouquinistes of Paris?
Max, an elderly Paris bookstall owner, is abducted at gunpoint in front of his friend, Hugo Marston, head of security at the US embassy. Marston launches a search for Max, enlisting the help of semiretired CIA agent Tom Green when he is confronted with multiple barriers. Together, they investigate not only Max’s past, but also the life and world of Paris bouquinistes. Is Max’s disappearance related to his work or his past? And will Hugo’s investigation threaten his life, too?
This is a pretty good opening salvo from Seventh Street Books. Pryor offers a new, fresh voice in thrillers, while working very much within the genre’s boundaries. It’ll be interesting to see what else the author can come up with, and is certainly now on my to-watch list.

While I was Out… (Books Received)
Things have been pretty great on the book front recently, so I wanted to share some thoughts and info on some of the new novels that arrived while I was up in Durham for the last few weeks. Here’s the pile:
The top seven on the stacked pile were sent to New York, and Alyssa kindly forwarded them on to me. However, it’s entirely possible that I’ll be sending them right back, if all goes well on Thursday…

New Crime Imprint: Seventh Street Books
A new crime imprint coming from Prometheus Books, who also brought us Pyr! Also, Seventh Street Books has announced their inaugural line of fiction. I’ve been really impressed by Pyr’s novels (I have a slew of reviews coming up for them, so watch this space!), so I’ll certainly be interested to see what Prometheus’s crime imprint comes up with.
Continue reading for information on their first nine releases. Hopefully I’ll be able to feature more about them on the site closer to release date, and I’ll try to get some interviews with at least a couple of the authors.
