Upcoming: “Avengers: Endless Wartime” (Marvel)

AvengersCoverFINAL

This is just a badass image. One of my favourite, recent pieces

In October 2013, Marvel will be releasing the first in a new series of original graphic novels. For those of us who tend to wait for collected editions of the monthly series, this is a great development. We’ll get a decent, “movie-length epic” (according to the press release). Here’s the premise for the first book, Avengers: Endless Wartime:

An abomination, long thought buried, has resurfaced in a war-torn land – but now it wears an American flag. Faced with another nightmare reborn, Captain America will not stand for yet more death at the hands of a ghost from his past. Haunted by his greatest shame, Thor must renew the hunt for a familiar beast. Side by side with the great Super Heroes the world has seen, united to end the threats no one of them could face alone, the Avengers will stare down the greatest threat the team has ever faced. But is even their combined might enough to overcome a force of pure evil?

The “Mightiest” of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is back!

Ace pilot. Legendary Avenger. One hundred percent pure bad-ass. Carol Danvers has a new name, a new mission – and all the power she needs to make her own life a living hell. As the new Captain Marvel, Carol is forging from a challenge from her past! It’s a firefight in the sky as the Banshee Squadron debut – but who are the Prowlers, and where has Carol seen them before? And how does secret NASA training program Mercury 13 fit in?

Witness Captain Marvel in blazing battlefield action that just may change the course of history! Avengers Time Travel Protocols: engage!

Collects: Captain Marvel #1-6

After spotting a preview of this series, I knew I had to read it. True, I still waited for the collected book, but the artwork for the first four chapters of this book are great. As it happens, the story is great as well. This was a very pleasant surprise, and the story exceeded my already high expectations.

Upcoming: CAPTAIN MARVEL #1

So, looks like Marvel’s going to be introducing a new, interesting character. From the creative team of fan-favorite writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and rising star artist Dexter Soy. (Covers will be done by Ed McGuinness and Adi Granov). Here’s a synopsis of the story:

“Carol Danvers suits up to tackle a threat only she can handle. Earth’s Mightiest Hero has a new name, a new mission and all the power she needs to make her life a living hell.”

Captain America will be guest starring in the first issue (on sale July 18th 2012). The press-release states that “no fan can miss this explosive new on-going [series] that will send shockwaves throughout the Marvel Universe” (emphasis mine). I’m sure it’ll be good (see below for some internal page art), but I am always dubious about words like those I’ve put in bold. Needless to say, I’m quite interested in seeing how this turns out, and I’m pleased they have given the character a more-or-less realistic physique.
