Artwork: The Last Three Issues of “I, Vampire” (DC)

Just a very simple artwork post, in the wake of my earlier post about I, Vampire’s end. Here is the cover art (without text, etc.) for the final three issues of the Josh Fialkov-penned and Andrea Sorrentino-drawn series. Let’s start with #17 (published February 27 2013):

I just really like the composition and sinister air to this piece. The imminent violence and (possibly) execution of Constantine. It’s quite eye-catching.

Not, however, as eye-catching as this simple, more-arty and emotional cover for the second-to-last issue of the series (published March 27 2013):

The cover for the final issue (published April 24 2013) just looks like the shit is about to hit the fan…

I have sadly not been able to keep on top of the series all the way through. My reviews can be found by clicking the links on the comics review tab, at the top of the page. Needless to say, I wish I had been able to keep up with it – it was engaging, dark, bloody, and beautifully rendered. I’ll definitely be buying the collected editions, to do my little bit (too late) to support the creative team.

  1. Looks great :). I think I'm going to have to pick up the first volume in print when I can... it's just that there are so many comics out there to choose from. (Basically, every New 52 Vol. 1 apart from Demon Knights, Swamp Thing, Batman & Teen Titans - and then the non-52 stuff as well).

  2. I love the looks of these. I've not really read any Constantine, so this would be a nice intro to the series :)

    1. Well, Constantine's been prominent in Justice League Dark (still ongoing), and has also featured in the New 52 series Animal Man and Sword of Sorcery.

His main series, though, was Hellblazer, which has finally come to an end with issue #300. I only read the 2012 annual, though - it was excellent. I may take the opportunity, now that it's finished, to delve back into the back catalogue for some of the best stories.

The character's first appearance, I believe was in a 1980s Swamp Thing issue... Read that somewhere. (Thought it was interesting.)

Constantine gets his own new, eponymous series this year - starting in March 2013, and written by Robert Venditti, with art by Renato Guedes.

  3. I Vampire has been one of the genuine (and pleasant) surprises of the NuDC, and I'll give credit to DC for letting it run this long :)

    1. I agree. Loved it. Didn't see very good early reviews of it, though. Some people also wrote it off before a single issue had landed (which is rather silly). Sad to see it go.
