Ups and downs. I'd say it was an interesting reading experience, though, if not necessarily a great one.

As Redhead mentions, below, there could be something reminiscent of The Road about it, which might explain a lot of people's praise for The Dog Stars. Having not read it (or anything by Cormac McCarthy), I couldn't comment on it more than that.Civilian Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10978134983999101494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25675853.post-4948373608206846802012-08-10T18:33:58.434+01:002012-08-10T18:33:58.434+01:00If that's the case with The Road, then I think...If that's the case with The Road, then I think that's definitely an influence. I did get used to it, but it still bugged me a little.Civilian Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10978134983999101494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25675853.post-30558162481562210892012-08-10T14:15:17.261+01:002012-08-10T14:15:17.261+01:00this sounds so strange I'll have to try to rea...this sounds so strange I'll have to try to read it. or at least try the first 100 pages.

when you first mentioned odd syntax and grammar, my first thought was Cormac McCarthy's The Road. There is hardly any proper punctuation in that book, and once the grammar tricks grow on you, it's OK. But now i'm wondering if the strange syntax is directly related to Hig's previous illness? maybe he's cognitively disabled? or hey, the guy has just been through the end of the world, maybe it's just PTSD.redheadhttp://littleredreviewer.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25675853.post-5509912306665203642012-08-10T13:36:52.551+01:002012-08-10T13:36:52.551+01:00This sounds like it would fail the 100 page test f...This sounds like it would fail the 100 page test for me.Paul Weimerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02444942522624902562noreply@blogger.com
